We take safety seriously at Assured Asset Testing, which is why we’re such staunch advocates of thermal imaging and preventative maintenance. By identifying and rectifying potential issues before they become major problems, you’re not only keeping your business safe, but also your most valuable assets – your people.
What is thermal imaging?
Thermal imaging or ‘Thermography’ is undertaken by using an infrared camera or imager to detect differences in temperature of electrical equipment located on a switchboard. Infrared cameras can detect problems the human eye can’t see. Even working in dark environments, the infrared camera can pick up on an object’s thermal energy and create an electronic image depicting the temperature differences of objects. When objects have risen in temperature compared to others around them (or there are varying temperatures throughout the one object), this may indicate an electrical fault.
Why do you need thermal imaging?
Switchboard faults are not uncommon. A range of problems can develop over time. One of them is electrical connections becoming loose; creating what is called ‘hot spots’ or ‘hot joints’. Thermal imaging is used to detect thermal faults at very early stages, preventing these from becoming more serious problems such as a sudden power failure or fire. This means you spend less time repairing or replacing seriously damaged items – or worse, recovering from a workplace incident – and spending even more time getting back to work.
When carried out regularly, thermal imaging and preventative maintenance not only saves you money in the long run, but also reduces your business’s risk of danger, damage and loss.
Why choose Assured Asset Testing for your preventative maintenance?
It’s in your business’s best interest to make sure you undergo thermal imaging as part of your regular and ongoing preventative maintenance. This helps you to avoid electrical fires and equipment failure, giving you peace of mind as well as a higher standard of safety.
